Are you trapped in a nightly homework struggle with your child? The list of excuses can seem endless: “I don’t have any homework today.” “My teacher never looks at my homework anyway.” “That assignment was optional.” “I did it at school.” If only your child could be that creative with their actual homework, getting good grades would be no problem! Pre-teens and teens often insist they have no homework even when they do, or tell parents that they’ve completed their assignments at school when they haven’t. If your child’s grades are acceptable and you receive positive reports from their teachers, congratulations – your child is doing just fine. James Lehman advises that students who are doing well have earned the privilege of doing their homework whenever and however they see fit. But if their grades reflect missing assignments, or your child’s teachers tell you that they’re falling behind, you need to institute some new homework practices in your household. For those classes in which your child is doing poorly, they lose the privilege of doing homework in an unstructured way. For the classes they are doing well in, they can continue to do that homework on their own.Trying to convince your child that grades are important can be a losing battle. You can’t make your child take school as seriously as you do; the truth is, they don’t typically think that way. Remember, as James says, it’s not that they aren’t motivated, it’s that they’re motivated to do what ...

The Creative Classroom When visitors enter a creative teacher’s classroom they are not only impressed with the colourfulness, vibrancy, attention to detail (clear labeling, crisp borders, thoughtful range of questions) and the quality of the work that the pupils have achieved, but also with the ability of pupils to stay focused on their work. The wallboards reflect a range of topics and art forms that are clearly the result of careful adult instruction and innovative practice. Each pupil’s name is visible alongside one or more piece of work. Far from being characterized by random activity and vague aspiration, the creative classroom is brimming over with pupils enjoying the challenge of targeted (but not rigidly prescribed) activity. Different activities in creative classroom In some classrooms, a range of different activities occupies pupils. Some have their heads down, immersed in completing a written task, while others are engaged in researching from books; a group is busy with an art project while a number of pupils are working in quietly on computers in the corner of the room, supported by an assistant. Yet others are quietly reading or completing work from earlier in the day. A small group of pupils is undertaking a science experiment with the teacher offering guidance and assistance. The atmosphere is businesslike but unhurried. Impress the Visitor Visitors are especially impressed by the way that pupil persevere and show resourcefulness when they are left to work unaided, conveying the clear message that pupils are motivated and pursuing defined goals. ...

For educators who teach diverse student populations throughout the world, idea sheets and learning kits are ideal. They deliver a hands-on approach to learning and understanding, using the low-cost materials typically found anywhere, such as tubes, CD cases, fabric, and twine. Just right for teachers on small budgets, and for getting students involved in activities that will educate and challenge them. Why “hands-on” gets high marks: Students become proactive learners Higher scores in science and math Improves creativity, and language and logic development You can choose from a wide selection of idea sheets. Each one outlines a hands-on activity that teaches a specific concept tied to latest teaching standards for art, science, and math. Idea sheets: Support curriculum standards Extend concepts to real-world problems Promote collaboration and interaction Complement textbook lesson plans Download : http://schoolofeducators.com/data Vishal Jain
