With the alarmingly increasing availability of information to people nowadays, need for speed reading is also on the rise. It is a collection of various techniques and methods that help in increasing your reading speed without actually reducing your retention and comprehension capabilities. This is becoming more and more popular among students and professionals alike. This is because students benefit through this skill by covering more chapters than their contemporaries. In the corporate world, employees with this skill are able to comprehend various reports, newspapers, emails, correspondence and other technical papers faster. Thus, it improves the efficiency and productivity of the person along with providing him more time to deal with other facets of life. Speed Reading Techniques Though learning to read speedily does not help in increasing the I.Q of a person, it does help in increasing the ability of the brain to comprehend various new concepts in a short span of time. In addition to these techniques, one should strengthen his or her comprehension and vocabulary to master this skill completely. Some common basic techniques that can be followed may be listed as follows: Avoid Reading Word by Word: Unfortunately, most of us are taught to read word by word since our childhoods. This is a typically common poor reading habit, which makes the person concentrate more on the words rather than the concept presented by the complete text. For speed reading, one needs to read in chunks and blocks while grasping the basic essence of these ...

Sammy Stein A good teacher, just like a bad teacher, will be remembered for the rest of a student’s life but what is it that makes a good teacher? The first thing a good teacher needs to do is set clear guidelines. Students should know how far they can go, where the lines are drawn and the rules they are expected to follow. These should be attainable, common sense and clear. If you expect good behavior as the norm, nine times out of ten you will get it but students need to know exactly what is acceptable and what is not. If rules are broken the teacher needs to take swift and fair action because if things are allowed to slide, mayhem can ensue.Respect is another characteristic of a good teacher. Respect should be gained through fairness and also given to students in return. This means listening to them, making sure each student feels valued and a vital part of the group and allowing them to develop their talents.Observation skills are good characteristics to have. If there is discord within the class a teacher will be able to observe and see where the trouble is coming from. It could be that a student needs to be challenged more, moved out of their comfort zone or included more and a good teacher will use strengths within the group to allow this to happen. This can mean speaking to individual students, assessing action to be taken and then implementing changes fairly and ...

Delivering a good speech starts with the writing of it. Although the topics of most speeches are different, some elements are widely applicable that can help us write a good speech more easily. A Core Message A speech’s core message is the goal of a speech: what does the speaker wants to tell to the audience. A speech can inform, convince, or entertain the audience, but it’s the core message that determines in what way a speaker delivers the speech. A speech on gardening would vary tremendously when the purpose of the speech changes from informing to entertaining. It’s important that the speaker knows this well when writing a speech and acts consistently throughout the speech. Clear Structure A good speech has three main parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. A good speech depends on each part playing its role dutifully. Introduction: A good introduction serves two purposes — grab the audience’s attention and introduce the topic. In the sense that not all audience is interested in what a speaker has to say, grabbing the audience’s attention at the very beginning is a very important task. The speaker can achieve it with a question, an anecdote, or a witty punch line. When a speaker has the audience’s full attention, he can deliver the body of his speech with less friction. Body: The body of a speech should be systematic and easy to understand. If the ideas of the topic are complex to understand, the speaker has to explain it layer ...

Expert answers the big question, can concentration improve memory? The basic memory mechanics exposes the power of concentration to improve memory. You can combine yoga with the basic memory mechanics to concentrate and focus to enhance encoding information in the brain. We’re a group of navigation engineers that take pride in navigating readers to the Correct Knowledge to obliterate harsh learning curves. We know from experience that knowledge is not power, but the correct use of knowledge is power. This article is about making the correct choices to improve memory and prevent from traveling down long lost dreary roads, stumbling into rattle snake pits and the lion’s dens. Can concentration improve memory of students, teachers, educators and others? Yes, concentrating can increase the amount of information encoded in the brain. Concentration enhances the basic memory mechanics by creating a healthy, vibrant and energetic brain. Most of my readers want to add additional skills to enhanced brain encoding methods and functionalities of the brain.Combining basic memory mechanics and concentrating creates the perfect chemistry. You are deeply encoding information in the brain, which makes recalling important and relevant information faster. First I highly recommend practicing the basic memory mechanics, which are enough: (1) water-10 glasses per day (2) sleep-6-8 hours per day (3) consumption of memory foods, vegetables and fruits (4) consumption of memory vitamin-supplements with memory foods, because vitamins cannot assimilate and digest alone. Secondly practice proven methods that work for you.Thirdly you can practice additional skills to increase encoding in ...

Are you trapped in a nightly homework struggle with your child? The list of excuses can seem endless: “I don’t have any homework today.” “My teacher never looks at my homework anyway.” “That assignment was optional.” “I did it at school.” If only your child could be that creative with their actual homework, getting good grades would be no problem! Pre-teens and teens often insist they have no homework even when they do, or tell parents that they’ve completed their assignments at school when they haven’t. If your child’s grades are acceptable and you receive positive reports from their teachers, congratulations – your child is doing just fine. James Lehman advises that students who are doing well have earned the privilege of doing their homework whenever and however they see fit. But if their grades reflect missing assignments, or your child’s teachers tell you that they’re falling behind, you need to institute some new homework practices in your household. For those classes in which your child is doing poorly, they lose the privilege of doing homework in an unstructured way. For the classes they are doing well in, they can continue to do that homework on their own.Trying to convince your child that grades are important can be a losing battle. You can’t make your child take school as seriously as you do; the truth is, they don’t typically think that way. Remember, as James says, it’s not that they aren’t motivated, it’s that they’re motivated to do what ...

Today, it has become a big requirement of the country to make the education system more rational, meaningful, more convenient, and more palpable to mind, more conducive, friendlier. Today, the education has become a mean to eliminate self. It has been wiped out by making mandatory provisions of subjects and uniform system of education. Therefore, there is an urgent need to revamp the education system in India. Our education system requires many reforms to be done. According to me, some of the urgent reforms are as following: Education should be incorporated in such a fashion that it catalyzes the natural growth of cognitive faculty. It should be based on aptitude of a child and a common syllabus should be avoided. The number of books and subjects must be reduced. Up to class sixth only four subjects should be there: English, Mother tongue, Math and Science and after sixth Social studies should be included. The initial grading and result system should be eliminated. Up to class fifth the medium of instruction should be in mother tongue. This removes the dichotomy of dual language. There should be an All India Teachers Services (AITS) to provide better incentive and status so that quality people can be attracted. The training of AITS should be very scientific to equip them with the expertise to read the psychology of their pupils. All fields of higher education should be linked with the vocations so that there is minimal educated unemployment. ...
